Auditions for the upcoming 2010-2011 season will occur on July 12 and August 16. There are a limited number of openings in each of the sections (bass are particularly encouraged to audition this year). Interested singers who read music may schedule an audition time by contacting:
Director
Dr. Ralph Edward Hughes
A committee consisting of the choir’s director and section leaders conducts the auditions. For the audition please be prepared to:
• sing a short expressive solo (This can be an art song, familiar hymn or song — the emphasis should be on expressive singing. Songs with a piano accompaniment are preferred. An accompanist will be provided.)
• sightsing three different exercises/excerpts that will be provided at the audition
• be guided through vocal exercises to demonstrate your entire range
• perform some common melodic intervals (such as Perfect 4th and Major 3rd)
A short series of questions will be asked regarding your choral experience and you will have a chance to ask us questions regarding the choir.
The time commitment for singers is considerable. We rehearse on Monday evenings from 7:00 to 9:30 pm. These rehearsals begin in late-August and continue through May. In addition to these Monday night rehearsals, there will be at least two section rehearsals and two quartet rehearsals for the December concert. A similar number of additional rehearsals are required for the March and May concerts.
