SMS has organized and sponsored many collaborative concerts with high school and college singers. Most of these concerts feature well-known guest conductors including:
2005 - Alice Parker has a long and distinguished career as conductor, composer and teacher. The concert performed on Sunday, October 30, 2005 featured many of her compositions and arrangements.
2004 - Oscar Escalada, Argentinian conductor, composer and arranger, was guest conductor for an outreach concert featuring tangos and other South American music. Oscar introduced the singers to unique rhythms and rhythm instruments.
2003 - Brian Stratton was a lead singer in Moses Hogan’s performing group. He lead the combined choruses in A Tribute to Moses Hogan featuring spirituals that rocked the house!
2000 - Joseph Jennings, known for his innovative arrangements and compositions, conducted an outreach concert that featured his compositions and arrangements including An Old Black Woman, Homeless and Indistinct
1998 - Maria Guinand conducted a concert that featured music from her native Venezuela including several compositions of contemporary composer Alberto Grau. Her warm heart and artistic skill inspired all the singers.
1996 - Moses Hogan, renowned arranger of Negro Spirituals, led a concert of spirituals that inspired all the singers and audience members. We were fortunate to have this personal experience with Moses before his untimely loss to the music world.
